Notes on fear not

Getting back to basics

Fear not used 144 times in the word

Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I [am] thy shield, [and] thy exceeding great reward.

Ever notice how many times the word exceeding show up in the word? I am not going to teach about that word but I would suggest that it might be worth some of your time when you have a chance.

Deu 31:8 And the LORD, he [it is] that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

He will not fail us. He goes before us he is our leader.

Jos 8:1 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:

Joshua is the Ephesians of the Old Testament. when they needed to do something in the book of Joshua mostly, not always they did that was told to them to do and they got the results.

Jos 8:3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai

Jos 8:18 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that [is] in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that [he had] in his hand toward the city

19 And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand: and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.

Jos 8:21 And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.

You can see there that when the people of Israel had no fear but did what God told them to they got the results. That is in stark contrast to when Moses sent out the 12 spies to see the Promised land and when they came back 10 said we can't do it but Joshua and Caleb saying it was a  land ripe for the taking.

Jos 10:25 And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

:26 And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening

Jdg 4:18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.

Okay need to explain this Jael had an army chasing him. He was on the run and Sisera "the wife of Heber the Kenite: for [there was] peace between Jabin the king of Hazor" So she was an allie of his king so he came seeking help.

It says in vs 18 she covered him with a mantel. That is a wrap that was worn in biblical times. It meant she would protect him.

in vs 19 he was thirsty and asked for water she gave him milk from a goat skinned bottle. Salt covenant.

She stood in door sign of protection. He did a no no and went into her bedroom to sleep.

4:21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

Ruth 3:11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou [art] a virtuous woman.

12 And now it is true that I [am thy] near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, [that] if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, [as] the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.

This is Boaz speaking to Ruth. Read the rest of the account they get married and have a son named Obed who has a son named Jessie and of course Jesse is the father of David the king!

Let's see it in the Gosples.

Mat 28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

The message is the same to us fear not he is risen.

Luk 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

There is an assoctated phrase only believe.

this is the only place used togther.

Luk 8:50 But when Jesus heard [it], he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.

This is where Jairus is walking with the Lord on their way for Jesus to heal his daughter and his servant comes to him,  Jairus with the news she is dead.

I am closing with one of the greatest examples we have in the word of someone hearing from God and deciding to just do as God says.

Luke 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
