Heart 1
Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the word heart in scripture. It is so big a subject that only giving it one week we would barely scratch the surface. There are twenty-one words that are translated heart in the Hebrew Scriptures alone, we will look at some of them, and nine more in the Greek Scriptures. This is enough so you could write a book on the subject. I want to start with the word 'abbiyr. It is translated stouthearted twice it has 15 other usages Isaiah 46:12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: Psalm 76:5 The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands It's definition is stallions it comes from the word abar which means mighty or valiant so heart would be a figure of speech at best and questionable as a translation of this word.
