Ephesians 6

Since last week we covered the opening section of Ephesians 6 I thought I’d start with the last section of the relationships section so we have a good running start into verse 10

5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singeleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

The word servants in the Greek is the word douloi a form of the word doulos this is a servant by the servant’s as well as the masters choice.

The word master is kurios it means:
God, Lord, master, Sir.
From kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title) -- God, Lord, master, Sir.
So now we have a large multi part God not a 3 part God.

The word translated singleness means with sincerity of heart or without hidden agendas or strings attached.

6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

Sounds a great deal like what is said in Colossians.

Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Whenever you read in Colossians or Philippians you will find it brings you back to Ephesians. That is the main function of those two books to bring us back to the correct doctrine contained in Ephesians, not that it will not agree with other sections of the word. No section in the word can contradict any other section without God explaining the change like in Genesis 9:1-7. Once a new administration starts God will explain the change it may even take many years for God to be able to explain not that God has a hard time with it but man has the hard time with it. It took approximately thirty years for God to explain the sacred secret what some call the mystery. It was God’s plan so he had no trouble understanding it was man specifically his chosen people the ones who were suppose to understand him. The Israelites including the 11 apostles whom Jesus himself chose were the ones who would not believe it. Now before we start feeling like we are better than that ask yourself what areas of the word do you not apply in your life?

We are not to do eyeservice. “To win their approval when their eye is on you” is how the the REV translates that phrase.

7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

I want to look at the word forbearing it is the Greek word aniémi according to

Strong’s Concordance:
aniémi: to send up, produce, send back
Original Word: ἀνίημι
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: aniémi
Phonetic Spelling: (an-ee'-ay-mee)
Short Definition: I let go, loosen, release, give up, neglect
Definition: I send up, produce, send back; I let go; I relax, loosen, hence met: I give up, desist from.

Here is how a few other versions translate it.

(NLT) And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

(NIV) Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don't threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.

(ESV) Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

Finally the Aramaic to Plain English Bible Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

Now we switch from relationships back to the man or woman of God in their walk. This section is the climax of this the what you have now in this administration and how to use it. This is what we might be considered the apex of how to of living the sacred secret. This is what we need to do on a daily basis.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

We are to be strong in the Lord. The only way that I have ever heard of to be strong in the lord is to first find out what he has to say by studying the scriptures doing what they set out for us. For those who may think well I don’t need to read the bible God will tell me what to do. God expects us to know the things he has set forth in his word then he will add to that specific information you need about a situation but he first he expects you to be understanding what you can from the written word he gave us. It is your responsibility to study and put the things it says to do into action in your life. Now we are living under grace so many times he will give you what you need in many situations anyway.

The word strong is the Greek word endynamoō it means empowered. The word power means powered with great power.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Don’t fall for the trickery of the devil. With the armour on we are prepared.
The Aramaic to plain English Bible:

And put on all the armor of God, so that you can stand against the strategies of The Devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

When things happen like your car gets stolen or you get sick remember we are in a spiritual battle we do not war in the senses realm we war in the spiritual realm. It may appear to happen in the senses realm but the fight is still spiritual.

The word rulers is kosmokratoras it means cosmic powers and this is only usage the root is kosmos which means: A government and krateō to have or be powerful. Here is how Strong’s define’s it: ruler of this world, that is, of the world as asserting its independence of God; used of the angelic or demonic powers controlling the sublunary world.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

God wants us to be able to stand against evil we need the power of God to do that.

We are to take the full armor not just part of it.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Bullinger translates this:
Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth and having put on the breastplate of righteousness

The loins represents the area life comes from. Truth is at the core of our being.

The breastplate protects our vital organs heart and lungs.

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

We stand on the word of God we go to spread the gospel of peace.

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

The shield of believing protects us from the onslaught of the evil one. As he shoots at us our shield of believing knocks the darts to the ground.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The helmet protects our thinking. If we have salvation we can center on the battle rather than are we going to make it into the return. The sword is what we attack with. Like our brother we answer the devil with “”It is written”’ and that slices him to ribbons.

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

We are told part of the armor is praying in the spirit. In 1 Corinthians 14:15 we are told that is speaking in tongues, and we are to be watchful and use it all. We are to pray for our brothers and sisters.

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Lastly we are to pray for our leadership and that they stay sharp on the word.

20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
